Who we are
PhraseBag (“we”, “us”) is a mobile app for travelers and language learners that lets you record, translate, and save foreign-language phrases. This policy explains what information we collect when you use PhraseBag and how we handle it. Questions? Email hello@phrasebag.com.
What we collect
Account info. Your email address and authentication tokens, managed by Clerk (our authentication provider).
Phrase data. The text of phrases you record or type, their translations, and the language pair you selected. Stored on our servers tied to your account.
Audio recordings. When you press record, the audio is transmitted to OpenAI for transcription and translation. We do not store the audio — it's processed in-memory and discarded after the translation is returned.
Usage data. Crash reports and error events sent to Sentry to help us diagnose bugs. May include device model, OS version, and stack traces. Anonymized.
Purchase data. If you buy phrase credits, payment is handled by Apple. We receive purchase confirmation events from RevenueCat (no card details).
How we use your data
To provide the service: transcribe, translate, and save your phrases.
To authenticate you and keep your phrase bag tied to your account.
To diagnose crashes and improve the app.
To process purchases of additional phrase credits.
We do not sell your data. We do not show ads. We do not share your phrases with anyone except the third parties listed below, and only as needed to provide the service.Third parties we work with
Clerk — authentication and account management. Their privacy policy.
OpenAI — audio transcription and translation. Audio and text are sent to OpenAI's API. Per their API terms, OpenAI does not train on data submitted through their API. Their privacy policy.
Sentry — crash and error reporting. Their privacy policy.
PostHog — anonymous product analytics (which screens are used, not what you typed). Their privacy policy.
RevenueCat & Apple — handling in-app purchases. RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Railway — our cloud hosting provider (where our database lives). Their privacy policy.
Data retention
Your phrases and account data are kept as long as your account exists. When you delete your account from the app's Settings screen, all your phrases and account information are permanently removed from our database. Crash reports stored by Sentry are auto-deleted after 90 days.
Your rights
You can:
View and edit your phrases anytime in the app.
Archive phrases you no longer want to see.
Delete your account at any time (Settings → Delete account). This is immediate and cannot be undone.

Children
PhraseBag is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, email hello@phrasebag.comand we'll delete it.
International data
PhraseBag is operated from the United States. By using the app you understand that your data is processed in the U.S. Some of our third-party providers (OpenAI, Sentry, Clerk) may also process data in other regions.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be communicated in the app or via email if appropriate.
